Marble Masterpiece

Marble is a classic material that can be a statement piece wherever/however it’s used. For centuries, artists and designers have sought out and chosen this stone for their projects. Now you’re researching the best choice stone for your art projects or home renovations and want to know more about Marble. Here’s all you should know!

WHAT IS MARBLE

Marble is a metamorphic rock meaning calcite and dolomite, the minerals found in limestone, are crystallized and “morphed” from limestone into Marble. Recrystallization is what marks the separation between limestone and Marble. This is what gives Marble the beautiful grey veins and the ever so trendy, bright white look.

DURABILITY

Now that you know what Marble is, you should know more about this material’s durability in your search for the best choice of stone. Because this is a calcium-based stone, Marble is softer and will react with acidic substances causing etching. For this reason, clients tend to gravitate towards Granite or Quartz to mimic the look of Marble. For as long as we’ve been in the business, we’ve been asked the question, “Can’t I find a granite that looks like marble?” The truth is that clients looking for a variation in color, movement, and veining are disappointed by the loss of the natural qualities which make marble counters one of a kind. With the proper care, cleaning and sealing, marble etching can be minimized.

THE BEAUTY OF MARBLE

There is very little that beats the beauty and elegance of a marble slab. We’ve touched on the unique gray veins and the bright white backgrounds marble can create. But you also should know that Marble can be polished, honed, or leathered, and these different finishing options help create a marble masterpiece that’s “personalized” just for you. A variety of marble options include: Fantasy Brown, Calacatta Gold Premium ExtraArabescato Calacatta, and Calacatta Gold Honed.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF MARBLE

Marble countertops should also be cleaned on a daily basis with a mild soap or stone cleaner. Avoid cleaning with highly acidic or alkaline cleaners, such as nail polish remover, turpentine, oven cleaner, bleach, drain cleaners, dishwasher rinsing agents, etc. Wipe up liquids as soon as possible. A cutting board is recommended. Also, avoid pressure or force on your countertops, such as dropping a heavy pot, as it can chip or crack the stone.
